O PAPEL DO MÉDICO DE FAMÍLIA PERANTE TOXICODEPENDENTES E SEUS FILHOS
João Rodrigues & Paula Carriço
Abstract: The treatment and recuperation of patients with drug dependence, and the accompaniment of their children, present great difficulties due to the complexity of the etiopatogenic factors involved. All point toward the presence of a HIGH RISK GROUP, at the biological, social and psychological levels, as well as toward the existence of "SICK" FAMILIES. The therapeutic imperatives do not always meet with the most adequate response in the classical doctor-patient relationship, making a differentiated therapeutic action in a multi-disciplinary team almost always necessary. Yet, the participation of the family doctor in an integrated and community-oriented program against drug dependence is possible, desirable and useful. A multi-dimensional model in which there is close colaboration and articulation between the family doctor and the CATs, or others, should be privileged. In this perspective, preventive support, fundamental to the patients, their children and their families, could be achieved through special programs in which the CATs (and not the Health Centers) become the coordinators of a strategy of support involving the family doctors, pediatricians, child psychiatrists, psychologists, obstretic and neonatal services, and other social support services, under the geographic area of influence of each CAT.
